Reston – January 17, 2022 – On Monday, January 17th, Amyx joins the Nation in remembering and celebrating the great American leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his significant contributions to the character of our Country. Dr. King gave us an inspirational vision and many lessons learned from his powerful example of a life driven with purpose. We remember the peaceful, compassionate life he lived and the manner in which he treated others.
In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service. On February 4, 1968, in Atlanta Georgia, Dr. King delivered a sermon at Ebenezer Baptist Church. It was during this service where he described his purpose in life, ““We all want to be important, to surpass others, to achieve distinction, to lead the parade,” Dr. King said. However, what was most important to him, he explained, was quite simple. That was to be remembered as one who “tried to give his life serving others…to love and serve humanity.”
As we reflect on this year’s Martin Luther King Day of Service, we should endeavor to strengthen our communities supporting Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” A key part of Amyx’s mission is to advance the wellbeing of the communities in which we work and I would like to thank our employees who give back to their communities and who have a life that embodies Dr. King’s message.
