Reston, June 18, 2021 – Following the President’s signing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act and the closure of Federal Offices, Amyx is observing this important and historic day. Amyx has designated Juneteenth (observed on June 18, 2021) as a holiday for our employees.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 as the last enslaved African Americans were granted their freedom. On that day in 1865, Union soldiers led by General Gordon Granger arrived in the coastal city of Galveston, Texas, to deliver General Order No. 3, officially ending slavery in the state. The final act of liberation came months after the Confederate army’s surrender ended the Civil War, and more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Amyx is proud to celebrate our nation’s diversity and we recognize the importance of remembering and learning from our history.
