He was the founder and former CEO of AC Technologies, Inc. (ACT) based in Fairfax, VA. Founded in 1993 as an information technologies company he set the strategy, acquired major customers and initiated quality practices to grow AC Technologies Inc, to be a premier Information Technology company in the Washington DC area.
AC Technologies, under Mr. Akula's leadership, earned awards from Inc. Magazine's 500, Deloitte & Touche's Fast 500, and Virginia Technology's Fast 50 for 6 years in a row. AC Technologies was listed as one of the top 100 privately held companies owned by Asian-Indian Americans. Mr. Akula was a finalist for the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Washington DC metro area in 2002 and was awarded the ASEs NCC Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2003.
AC Technologies, Inc. finished 2004 with more than $60+M revenue run rate and 400 employees before he sold the company to PEC Solutions, a NASDAQ traded company. Until June of 2007, Mr. Akula was the President of ISS Sector, Nortel Government Solution, a subsidiary of Nortel Networks of Canada. Mr. Akula's sector achieved the prestigious SEI/CMMI Level 5 in 2006. He also held various positions at NASA prior to founding ACT.
Mr. Akula received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad India. Later he received Master of Science degrees in Engineering and Management at the University of Maryland.
Mr. Akula is also current President of TiE-DC, Washington's largest organization of entrepreneurs, dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, from Richmond to New York. Under his leadership, TyE (TiE Young Entrepreneurship) Boot Camp for high school students was launched successfully. The program teaches students how to become a successful entrepreneur and help discover the rewards and challenges of becoming an entrepreneur!
