Reston, VAOn Monday, May 30, 2022, many us will celebrate the men and woman that when called upon by their Country, gave the ultimate sacrifice for something bigger than themselves.  They dedicated their lives to our Constitution, our way of life, our freedom, and their loved ones.  This upcoming weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer, which rightfully so, is a time of family get togethers, hikes, cookouts, backyard barbeques, and any number of activities that bring us together.

Some will visit cemeteries and memorials.  A few will place flags, wreaths, or flowers on the graves of the service men and women in national cemeteries across the nation.  Some will take a moment of time to reflect and think about someone they knew or met.  All of this in any form is the sentiment that makes us better together as we, as a nation, in each of our unique ways, reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by our Nation’s heroes.

Memorial Day began in 1868 as Decoration Day.  By 1890, most states had adopted this holiday and history has shown us to be unifying in our believe that Memorial Day’s purpose is to honor and remember Veterans.  As time passed, the world wars moved the holiday’s focus to a day of remembrance for all fallen Veterans, which continues to this day as it was recognized as a federal holiday in 1971.

William Schaefer, President and CEO of Amyx, Inc., said,  “As world events such as the war in Ukraine unfold, this Memorial Day weekend is a reminder that as far as we have come in our human endeavor, there continues to be a strong national security need for our dedicated military service members in this world.  Please take a moment of your time to remember and honor those who have given the most for our Nation.  As partners of the DoD and the Military Services, on behalf of Amyx, I would also like to personally thank all of the currently serving Service members and Amyx’s Veteran employees who continue to serve.”
